Dax’s breath came in harsh bursts, eyes blazing gold, arm still smoking faintly where rune-light had tried to claim him. The cracks in the chain around his forearm glowed like embers—half broken, half alive.
He looked at me like he’d been hiding something for years and the cage had finally ripped it loose.
“Aria,” he said, voice rough. “You need to know what I am.”
Kieran’s coal-bright gaze stayed locked on me, the mate bond tugging like a rope around my ribs. My copy watched too, smiling like she’d already won.
