I lowered my head, waiting for him to say something. His touch was cold and clammy, sending chills down my spine. "Now that the child is close to you, why can't you just kill him?" Zuku hissed, his grip tightening on my neck. I looked up at Zuku, unsure what to say to him. He lifted me up while his hands were on my neck, his eyes flashing with anger.

The last thread tethering me to sanity snapped, and Zuko surged forward, taking control. My vision blurred, my body convulsing as fur sprouted from my skin. The growl that tore from my throat wasn’t human—it was pure, primal rage. “She is not yours to mark!” Zuko growled, his voice a guttural snarl that echoed through the room. Without hesitation, we lunged at Caden, claws extended, ready to end this once and for all.

As soon as he does, I see several people coming outside to greet us, but I only have eyes for my mate. I slide off of Avani’s wing and race to Zephyr. I go to pick her up and swing her around and I realize that her stomach is much larger than it was the last time I saw her. So instead, I take her face in my hands and I kiss her, long and deep, taking my time, opening my mind to her as she does the same. I don’t stop when she begins to whimper, I don’t stop when she holds on to me tightly. I only stop when I feel a small hand tugging on my shirt.
