I screamed, the sound tearing the lining of my throat until the silver-grey blood began to mix with the rain on my chin. The Alpha didn't use his wings because the real-world gravity wouldn't let the air carry his iron mass. Instead, he used the momentum of his own weight, his charcoal-black body lunging forward like a locomotive that had jumped the tracks. His shoulder hit the chest of the lead enforcer with a dull, wet crunch that sounded like a hammer hitting a sack of raw salt. The man didn't fly backward; his cybernetic chassis collapsed inward, the silver plating along his jaw snapping out of the bone as Dante’s iron fingers closed around the barrel of his anti-material rifle.

Musa yelled, the massive ailerons on the wings suddenly groaning and shifting as his hydrokinesis took control of the dead machinery. "Avionics are live!" Daniel’s voice crackled over the scavenged radio system. "But we have company!" From the southern horizon, a thick, billowing cloud of red dust was approaching the airbase at high speed. Through the morning mist, the terrifying silhouettes of Vanguard outriders emerged. Fifty heavily armored zealots riding modified, all-terrain dirt bikes were tearing across the perimeter fence. They were Malik’s forward scouts, heavily armed with kinetic rifles and thermal lances, sweeping the area for survivors of the Warren collapse.

Vespera said, wiping blood from a cut on her cheek—real blood, mixing with the rain blowing in. They sprinted for the stairs. They burst onto the roof just as the security elevators pinged on the floor below. A sleek, black armored AV-9 was waiting. They jumped inside. Vespera slid into the pilot’s seat, her interface cables automatically jacking into the vehicle’s system. The engine roared to life. They lifted off, blasting away from the tower just as security forces breached the roof door, firing uselessly at the retreating vehicle. Vespera punched it, weaving through the towering skyscrapers, heading toward the lawless darkness of the outer sectors.

DAMON The next morning, the palace still lay under the veil dawn, mist curling low across the courtyard. The air was damp, heavy, like the earth itself was holding its breath. Aurora stood at the steps, wrapped in a deep blue robe, watching as I and the warriors prepared the horses. Armor clinked, saddles cracked, and the scent of steel lingered sharp in the air. I emerged from the stable in my black leather armor, every inch the Alpha king, but my eyes softened when they met hers.

It was so intense, like they were telling me something, they held a promise. But promise of what? Destruction. A small voice in the back of my mind hummed. Fresh tears escaped me as I started crying. Vengeance. That's what his looks held. Hunger for revenge. I gulped as the severity of the situation dawned on me. The man seemed insane and I had to stay away from him. Or else he might destroy me. And this time, I will be shattered completely.

And now, they stood a chance at winning - now the odds didn't look so impossible. Reinforcements had come. They had finally come, and boy - did Lady Valda train her legion well. Winged warriors, male and female alike, dropped from the skies like fallen angels. Scooping up grown men into the air, taking off and dropping them like a stone, or barreling them into a group of dark soldiers. Their incredible feathered wings tucked in tight, as some of them wielded swords or spears, their movements swift and graceful, despite the weight on their backs. They were a force to be reckoned with.

Victor growled through the mind link once more. Tania weaved the shadows. The vampires used bursts of speed to take out as many wolves as they could before leaping onto high brunches. I had lost my brother and Quade in the mix but I spotted a white wolf blanketed in purple flames easily. "We can't do this forever," I told Victor as I dodged the dripping fangs of a rogue, making to run left but dashing right a the last minute so the rogue missed my hind legs. I wasn't fighting. I was avoiding. I was surviving. I was blocking out the horror I felt from just snuffing out someone's life.

She yanked him to the floor while the other vampires in the room that had almost sucked Nanny dry rushed over to help Luca out but some men barged in wearing purple and with the same mask as Raven's. They helped in capturing the two men whilst one of them brought Raven a strange looking knife. Raven held it close to Luca's back and slashed his back from his shirt. Carly shivered on seeing this, Luca was forcing himself not to cry out from the pain. "A message from me to your father. Show him your back son" Raven said and signalled his men to drop the twins back home. "Take the vamps with you to the lab" Raven said "You will never succeed in bringing us down. Father will come for you" Carly y

While she carried her continuously threatening tone with him, she made no actual threat that was verbalised. Unfurling his wings and cowering into a ball within them, Ingram responded back nervously. Fumbling over some of his words as he spoke. "HE IS A WEREWOLF PRINCESS!! PLEASE- PRINCESS SEPHORA CALM YOURSELF!" His wings were an appropriate, navy which was almost black, colour for someone living in the Noble District. They were beginning to show that grey speckling in his feathers, a show of age among all harpy, but usually most noticeable on Ravens and darker feather Clan's first. Like that of Maven's but not quite as much yet.

“Are you my boyfriend or my bodyguard?” He held his ring in front of me, my eyes were magnetized by the intricate carvings on it. “Guardian angel, remember?” He straightened up on his seat, and in a louder than necessary voice, he said, “And unlike the last one you had, I have a sword, not a halo. And my wings are black, not white. It’s time they realized who they will have a problem with the next time they hurt even a single hair in your body!” My eyes widened at him. He took my hand in his again, and then he bent down to kiss my fingers once again. “I love you, angel.” He didn’t even whisper that. I was sure many people around us heard everything he said.
