Avery Rowan Novels & Stories

The air carried her essence, her wisdom woven into the breeze, her resolve in the earth but it wasn’t enough to dull the ache of her absence. Rowan stood at the edge of the new world’s first hill, his blade sheathed but his hand never far from its hilt. His eyes scanned the horizon, where the gold light met a faint shimmer of shadow—not the unmaking, not the Keeper, but something new, something that knew their names and waited with infinite patience. “She gave everything for this,” he said, his voice low, rough with grief. “We won't let it fall.”

Rowan was leaning against the passenger side with his arms crossed and his expression doing several things at once. Rowan Ashford was twenty-seven and had his brother's jaw and their mother's eyes and a quality of warmth that Caelum had spent years being quietly grateful existed in the world, even if he couldn't replicate it himself. He looked at the woman standing two steps behind Caelum, holding a bag that was not large enough to constitute a life's worth of belongings, and then he looked at his brother. "So," Rowan said. "Don't," said Caelum. "I haven't said anything."

Then: "About what?" Then Rowan pointed. Then: "The Rowan Special." Silence. Then: "Why is there a pastry named after me?" The merchant blinked. Then: "Because you're a hero." Then Rowan bought six immediately. Honestly? Fair. Very fair. Reasonable honestly. Meanwhile— Thomas and Ava managed to escape briefly. A miracle. Then they found themselves walking through the quieter part of the city. Away from the crowds. Away from the noise. Away from Rowan. Which was honestly the most important part.

“I mean Isolde. Sorry.” Ari. Arwen’s nickname. The one only her family used. “I should go,” Arwen said. “Thank you for coming.” She left before they could respond and walked quickly through the house. They knew, or they suspected. Either way, she’d failed. She made it to the east wing before someone called her name. “Mrs. Ravencroft.” Rowan Kade stood in the hallway. “Not now, Rowan.” “I need a word. It’s important.”

Shifted my gaze down to Amara who was still watching me with those silver eyes, rabbit now dangling from one hand. I crouched down. Heard Athena go very still above me but she didn’t move. Up close Amara was even more disarming. She had Athena’s coloring, the red hair, the shape of her face, but those eyes were mine and she used them the same way I’d been told I used mine, like she was taking inventory. “Hi.” I said. She considered this greeting for a moment. “Hi.” “I’m Rowan.” “I know.” She said it like this was obvious, which meant Athena had said something in the past three days. The knowledge settled somewhere in my chest strangely.

“Mr Rowan. Long time no see.” Mr Rowan looked like a tired accountant in a cheap suit, but in this city, he was the gatekeeper of all the important news that needed to be known. He had the widest network, and he was the most likely to camp outside your house for three weeks just to get information. Arlo knew that the only reason Aria hadn’t been caught with Aston was because Aston’s security detail was insane.

Kael turned his back and walked away. The flame hissed: “This was the truth he buried to protect his legacy. Would you still let him lead?” Ava reached for the glass—but it cracked into flame and vanished. More heat. Her skin blistered. She staggered to her knees. 5. The Third Vision – Rowan’s Guilt Then: a snowy forest. Rowan held a child in his arms. Dead. Frozen. He howled—not in rage, but in failure. Ava fell to her knees.

She simply smiled at Amy and walked away. Amy turned around, watching Evelyn's slender figure pass through the long corridor. Her head was held high, and her steps were resolute and proud. Amy found herself suddenly understanding why Rowan was drawn to Evelyn. It was because of the silent resilience within her, the poised calmness, the tranquility she had, and the fact she didn't seek out trouble. Rowan was a man burdened by a heavy past. So, only a woman who was mature and composed like Evelyn could capture his heart.

Nothing else came out. He looked wrecked. Drowning in instinct he couldn’t control. “Maya!” I hissed, pushing past her. “Stop. Seriously.” She didn’t look away from him. “Aria… his eyes just— they— Did you see that?!” “Leave him alone,” I said quickly. “He’s just helping. That’s all.” Rowan’s eyes snapped to mine — grateful, guilty, torn — before he spun and vanished into the trees. Too fast to be human.

No one will care, she can only blame her mother's unfortunate fate. Near the crystal frozen river, there's a humongous and tall tree called 'sakura', the only tree that living in this place. Its big and long branches curved and twisted in an enchanting way were covered in a pile of snow. A group of crows flaps their wings and cowed on top of the large branches while watching the two kids busily covered the hole in soil using the shovels.
