I tried to run, but my legs wouldn't move. He had drugged me in the car. My consciousness blurred; I had to focus just to stay awake. I was done for. If anyone could save me now, it would have to be my phone. But it had been smashed by Thomas and left behind on the road. Despair consumed me… until the distant roar of a car engine reached my ears. Thomas frowned, hid the knife behind his back, and warned me to stay quiet. Then he went to check outside. What happened next, I don't know. When I woke, I was lying on the side of a road. The sky was completely dark. No one was around.

I glanced through the room and saw Lucien sleeping on the couch opposite the bed. He looked so peaceful in his sleep and it made my heart flutter. I sat up slowly, feeling a little bit better. But as soon as the blankets came off me, he opened his eyes. “You’re awake.” His voice was low but filled with relief. I honestly couldn’t remember anything that happened before I slept off. The only thing that raced through my mind was the fact that I had discovered my true mate — even without a wolf. Maybe the moon goddess was just watching over me. Maybe she hadn’t truly abandoned me and I wasn’t cursed or anything.

This wasn’t the curse breaking. This wasn’t a hallucination. This was the beginning. The awakening. My fingers curled into his shirt as my vision finally snapped to black. And the last thing I heard was Malrik’s voice breaking in a way I had never heard before: “She’s waking up too fast.”

Xavier POV I was awakened by the gasps and cries of Ana. I jolted awake and saw her tossing and turning on the bed. She was still asleep. I knew I needed to be careful with how I woke her up. People could be unpredictable when waking up from a nightmare. “I can’t!” Ana cried in her sleep. “I’m trying!”

I pinch slightly on one nipple and she wiggles on top of me. "Morning beautiful," I murmur into her ear and her eyes flutter open. "Having sweet dreams?" I ask and pinch on the other nipple. "Hmmm," she groans with a wide smile. I slip my hand between her legs and I am surprised to find how wet she is. My cock stirs in approval. "Still sleepy? I definitely know a good way to make a wake up call," I whisper into her ear and nip gently behind her earlobe. I slip a finger into her and add another.

I know how much it distresses him if it is and I don’t want it to progress, so I gently touch his face with my fingertips, across his cheek softly to rouse him from the deepest part of sleep. “Colton….. wake up.” Whispering, I try and stir him out of his state of vision, but he only opens his eyes impulsively, blinding blue glow like neon tube lights making me squint and stares blankly through me. His body responding to me, but his mind fully submerged in wherever he is. He is most definitely not awake, and his focus is on nothing out here with me. No depth, only blank and rigid and disconnected from reality.

"I thought you said that it wasn't that easy or something and how exactly are you supposed to awaken him. Your dad has been badgering me for months for me to awaken him and I'm like I don't know how and suddenly you do." Cassian glanced away from me as I rambled. "Oh, I get this adds to the list of things that you are still not telling me, doesn't it," I openly accused him and he had the audacity to remain quiet. "I am way too sleepy for this shit," I grumbled walking across the room. "It's not like that. I've been…experimenting, listening to all that Kylen has to share," he said defensively, finally! "Yeah, he thinks that you will have a greater chance of winning if you awaken him yourself

Then I woke up. My soul had settled back into my body like water poured into an empty vessel trying to adjust the strange yet familiar shape. Even so, my sense eluded me, it felt like I was still stuck in that place of nothingness. Like I was still dead, still trapped by forces unseen and all powerful. Tap. Tap. The first thing to return was sound. When I opened my eyes again, I was in a hospital room. Fortunately, I had called the police. Both Edith and I were rescued. Evelyn's voice came. "Edith, you haven't eaten for a day. Edith was annoyed, but when she noticed that I was awake, she raised her eyebrows proudly and took a bite of the fruit.
