A burst of silver light exploded from the screen. My mark burned hotter than ever. I cried out. Adrian held onto me. "Lena!" Then suddenly— Everything stopped. The machine went completely silent. The lights shut off. The screens went black. The underground chamber fell into darkness. No alarms. No humming.

I stood my ground, holding the book-shield in front of me. BAM. He hit the shield with the force of a truck. The impact sent a shockwave through my arms, but the book didn't break. Instead, it started to suck the ink out of the machine. The silver wires began to dissolve into the pages. The red lights dimmed. "No... the data..." the machine groaned. In seconds, the Bryan-machine was gone. All that was left was a pile of scrap metal and a single, glowing blue microchip on the grass.

I squint my eyes, as I try to decipher the hidden letters that could either unravel a breakthrough or turn the whole paragraph into complete nonsense. It appears the nanites, which are highly chemically reactive organisms, are changing their bio-engineered purpose when dopamine levels are high. With a new generation of nanoids, stronger and smarter to fight the battle, the virus doesn't have a chance.
