ARIA AKA RED It's been a week since I returned home from the hospital with Zeynep. I guess everyone forgets to tell you how sleep-deprived you will become. Not because Zeynep doesn't sleep or the fact that I need to wake up every three hours at night to change her diaper, feed her, and burp her. No, that isn't the case at all because we have mastered our routine. I cannot stop glancing at her and thinking, 'Wow, I made her... she came out of me'.

“Shut up! Twins?! Katherine! She rushes in to hug me bwfore keeping the meal down. “Two at once! Oh my God, girl, this is insane.” She led me into the house as jordan closed the door. Jordan leaned back. “You know how many diapers that’s gonna be? Double everything. Double the crying too.” Marlin waved her fork. “We’ll figure it out. I’ll start a jar at the café. People love helping with babies. We’ll call it the diaper fund.” I laughed, my chest warm. These two were my family. Not the rich people who’d turned their backs on me. This right here.

I’ll still get to see them every day, but they’ll be around other pups and making friends and I’ll have help, and if I ever get overwhelmed I still have my parents and our friends. So how about once I go back to work, you go to pastry school, that way you’re at school while I’m at work and you don’t feel like you’re abandoning us, because you’re not,” I offer confidently.

There’s a whine behind her voice telling us easily the ordeal that she has gone through mentally. “It may sound odd but we found that the diapers with the most universal fit are cloth ones. We carry several of them in our bag along with clothing in various sizes. If she will let you, I think you have the most experience with infants considering you have two year old sisters.” Parker chimes in. “They are nearly three and already potty trained. Plus Austin is an actual father.” I push back knowing that he’s just simply trying to get away with giving me what most men don’t want to deal with.

Thankfully, Bea was always helpful with her little sister. I’d wager that’s why they’re so close now.” I smile, imagining the two of them in the hospital room after Orchid was born. “They’re something for sure.”

My heart felt so full, it was overwhelming. She nodded and left the room. I looked down at the child in my arms, who was looking around in innocent wonderment. "What do you think, sweetie?" Annika made a few indiscernible noises, but I knew she felt as relieved as I did. I took her over to the changing table, diapers and wipes set out for me. Organized. My hands shook as I changed her diaper. Her clothes were stained. I tossed the old pajamas into the trash pail. That was behind us now. Her clothes were a little big, but that was perfect. She had room to grow. I sat in the rocking chair in the corner of the room, pulling my shirt up to nurse Annika.

It moved me so much, I even moved back into my chambers that night! I cautiously and nervously gave Bahari a bath that night with Kris and Jo Jo while Hunnie fed Hubi. When it came time to dress him, I had to bathe the poor kid again, because he pissed all over his self and me. If Maddox got out right about now, he will likely be heading towards the kitchen, which will only take a few spoken words from Emrik and Liam for him to find out that I’ve come back to the room to “change diapers” Grabbing a large suitcase from Maddox’s closet, I begin tossing random articles of my own clothing inside, packing mostly underwear and only a few outfits before I dash into the nursery with the bag and begin packing as many diapers as I can. Before the diapers have the chance to take up all the space, I toss a bunch of plain old, boring onesies, pants, shirts and some sweaters in as well before zipping up the bag and hauling ass back down the stairs.

“Your baby, your diaper.” “You’re going to regret that policy,” I say, taking Rafe from her with raised brows, “in juuuuust about three and a half months, Cora.” “And for three and a half months, I will be diaper free!” she calls after me with a laugh as I carry my smelly baby over to his changing table in the bedroom.
