That room was dirty. I pushed open the door to the smallest guest room in the back of the west wing. It was rarely occupied, and it had a faint scent of dust and abandonment. I didn't turn on the light. There was enough moonlight streaming through the window to illuminate the plain bed, the unadorned dresser. I sat down on the edge of the bed, the springs complaining with a creak. The numbness wore off, replaced by a tremor that started deep inside and shuddered through me from head to toe. The lady walked towards the elevator and Kathilyn followed suit. As they both were inside the elevator, the lady pressed a button to the 10th floor. I could barely see anything else past the thick sheet of rain hammering against the frosting glass and didn’t dare to leave the warm comforts of inside to investigate. Back out in the hallway to the right were three doors evenly spread apart opposite the bar area. All were stripped bedrooms, each with an untouched flat-pack bed resting on the dark wooden floorboards. The end of the hallway lead to the back door that was completely frosted over from the rain. To the right was a tiny door that led to a massive laundry room, complete with a chute that led to a huge clothing trolley. I followed the hall back to the front door then headed back upstairs to the loungeroom before me.
