HOUSE OF FORBIDDEN DESIRE
“I carried that envelope. I walked in blindfolded. I thought… I thought I was handing her the keys to everything. I thought I would ruin us.”
He spoke again, his voice was softer, and almost gentle. “You were never supposed to know the full plan. Not until it was over. If she suspected anything… if she saw doubt in your eye, she would’ve smelled the trap. You had to believe it was real. You had to sell it.”
I laughed. It sounded bitter even to me. “So I was bait.”
“You were the only one she trusted enough to hand it to personally. The blindfold, the threat, all of it that was her being paranoid, not me. I only used it.”
