"It was just a prank. Stop looking at us like we owe you something. Fine, I know you sprained something because the drones' batteries died. I'll pay for the meds." He took out hundreds of dollars from his pockets and tried to stuff them into my hands. I moved away, and the bills fluttered down to the ground. His face fell. "Don't push it, Jessica. I'm only saying sorry because we're childhood friends. It's not like I can't live without you." The class was staring at us, engaged in whispered discussion. "I can't believe she's pushing away money." "Yeah, if it were me, I'd do the same thing a hundred times."

Bastian POV I sat across from Dr. Thompson, but the quiet of his office wasn’t helping the storm inside me. His walls were covered with certificates and paintings, but none of it could calm the mess in my chest. Dr. Thompson adjusted his glasses and leaned forward. “You’ve been more tense and quiet than usual, Bastian. What’s on your mind?” I sighed, rubbing my face. Where should I start? Should I tell him I’m thinking things I shouldn’t about my best friend’s daughter? Or that guilt is eating me alive? I decided to go with a safer topic, even though it wasn’t much safer.

I would go through a lot of inhumane torture every day and it would be worse anytime he was annoyed. Tonight, there was supposed to be a festival in the pack, while serving the crowd, I came across the Alpha of the pack and unexpectedly I felt an uncanny connection with him. Before I could scramble away afraid he might notice, I was stopped by his rejection. He had also noticed. I had thought that at least, he was going to accept me, but then it turned out that I was living in a fantasy world. Thinking about all this, the tears in my eye became intense as it flowed down like a river. Never was I going to be able to heal in this lifetime.

He stepped into the gym after me. "She confirmed that Melody and the rest of the Fae and Dacian will be here tomorrow." "Good, the sooner they arrive, the faster we can get our warriors trained and ready," I said, getting into my stance on the centre mats. Then, without wasting another minute, Drake charged forward. One of the things I enjoyed about Drake was he never judged. Even before he was my Beta, he had my back and always gave me the support I needed. He was my closest friend, and I considered him family.

Drake's friends gasped from what he muttered and on the other side, I bite my bottom lips because of the tense. “Damn, our apologies, Alpha. We didn't know that.” They explained and Drake pull my hand which made me to faced them. My gaze turned to his friends and I just saw them now. I'm confident that I never met them before. “Sofia… I would like to introduced you, my asshole friends.” They muttered, and I can't stop myself to chuckle upon seeing the reaction on his friend's faces. “You know, it hurts us, but we would like to introduce ourselves. My name is Aiden Carter, your lady.” I stared to the man who just introduce himself. He was tall and handsome, just like Drake.

Lycan and Kael, Drake's friends, were with him. They were in the bar where they used to have fun, and he just wanted to have a drink to alleviate the pain and frustration he is currently experiencing, and to forget about the problems he is currently facing. "Congratulations, man," his friend Kael said as he sipped wine from a glass. "You'll be marrying the person who has liked you the most since college," he added, mockingly. Drake look at his friend Kael in a serious look, his look is like a dagger, ready to dig it onto his body.

Whoever this was, he was definitely not a friend of Sinclair, that and the fact that it seemed they shared some history. “Drake.” Sinclair said with a single nod of his head. “My friend,” Drake laughed, clasping his hands on his shoulders. I didn’t miss the subtle hitch from Sinclair even as he took a small step back. Looking at them, I didn't know who was taller. Both of them were hulking but it seemed Drake was just a few inches taller than Sinclair. “I’m not your friend.” Then turning to me, he said; “Lyra, meet Alpha Drake Baldwin of the Crystalmoon Pack.” he added.
