Mom pulled something from her pocket that was shaped like a delicate seashell. I looked up at her, my eyes full of silent question. Understanding my gaze, she gently opened the shell. Inside was not a powder or a cream, but what looked like a shimmering, pearlescent dust. With the utmost care, she dipped her finger into it and softly swept the substance across each of my eyelids. A strange, cool warmth spread from her touch, and for a fleeting second, my vision seemed to sharpen, the colors in the room becoming impossibly vibrant.

His right eye was still an empty black eye hole, the left eye had grown, but there was only a lone turquoise eyeball set in the socket, the eyelid was not repaired along with the lower eyelid, and at first glance, it was even more oozing than the two black eye holes. Evelyn froze for just a moment and immediately recovered.

Only the sound of the waves answered the woman's call. Cia sat up in frustration, exhaustion etched on her face. Her hand slowly moved down from her face and she looked at me weakly, afraid like hell of my reaction to what she just gave me permission to see. I softly removed her hair to the side to reveal her missing eye. Her eyelid was drooping over her empty eye socket probably because there was nothing to support it and keep it upright. She couldn’t open it because her eyelid was too heavy to control and move. I leaned closer and kissed her eyelid warmly. “Thank you for letting me see you without barriers anymore. You are very pretty, Mila. This doesn’t change anything about how I feel for you, I promise” I said as I pressed my forehead to hers and looked at her emotional, tearful brown eye staring

“And that’s just the base. That’s before they even start drawing geometry on their eyelids.” Mariah snorted. “Not geometry.” “IT IS,” I insisted, warming up now. “They’re like, ‘Just do a soft cut crease, a smoked-out outer corner, and a subtle wing,’ and I’m over here stabbing myself in the eye with a pencil because no one explained how to do a wing for someone whose eyelids aren’t tiny billboards.” Tori laughed, nodding a little too hard. “Honestly? She’s not wrong.”
