My fists clenched involuntarily as the memory flashed of Zavyr’s brother, Liam, being shamelessly and cynically gunned down right in front of my eyes.
“Hang in there, my friend,” I muttered quietly. “You still have to find your little runaway and become our brother-in-law. And Aline would’ve torn my head off if she saw the state you’re in.”
“It does you good to have your brains straightened out sometimes,” the beta croaked, barely moving his tongue, then coughed and cracked his eyes open. I stepped closer and helped him drink from a glass of water.
