Madden ordered, not moving an inch. "Two boxes of jaguar!" The barber snapped his fingers. Swiftly, it was brought on a tray together with two bottles of vodka. The tray was dropped on a lower table, and the shop was closed on them. All workers and the boss barber himself moved to the second room, leaving the two alone. Adeline sat beside Madden, watching him with the side of her eye as he picked a stick of cigar. Adeline's eyes left the cigar and went to the two bottles of vodka lying on the tray.

The summer heat hung heavy in the small town barbershop as Jake pushed open the door. Sweat already stuck his shirt to his back from the walk over, but the second he stepped inside, cool air and the sharp smell of aftershave hit him. He had come for a simple trim. That was all. But the man behind the chair turned around and everything changed.
