Seventeenth wish I could turn the clock around and re-do it again, I turned to my bedstand and my lips curled into a smile, a sad one. A picture of my mum was on the stand, she was so pretty, I miss her everyday.
I sighed and pulled myself out of the covers, I turned to the mirror and sighed, I looked like a mess, a reflection of my life at the moment. I pushed my wavy hair back, trying to tame it a little and ran my tongue over my chapped lips. I forced myself into the shower and pulled out my toothbrush squeezing toothpaste out of the tube, I pushed it into my mouth and started scrubbing like a mad woman. I stared at the mirror once again and spat into the sink “You're special, you're beautiful, you're amazing” I said to myself in the mirror, I've watched many tiktoks of people saying positive affirmations to themselves in the mirror. “Yeah won't work for me” I rinsed my mouth and came out from my room walking into the living room. My stepdad sat on the island bench in the kitchen sipping coffee, he liked black coffee, just like his heart. “Good morning James” I greeted but he didn't even bother answering me. I clenched and unclenched my jaw before walking over to the fridge, I pulled out the milk carton and a bowl from one of th cabinet, I poured the milk in first before adding the Cereal, that's how I liked eating my cereal, I let it soak and watched it become soggy before spooning it into my mouth. I sucked on it and chewed hard before swallowing, James looked up giving me a disgusted look before walking away. I ignored him and continued my cereal, pulling out my phone. I began scrolling on tiktok, I didn't exactly have anyone to text. I was laughing at one of the videos when a paper landed on the island drawing my attention. I looked up it was an envelope. “Open it” James said boredly, he had thrown the envelope on the island, I pulled it closer to me and tore it open, I didn't even bother to check the sender. I pulled the paper inside and it looked like a letter. Bridgeford high: Miss Avery Martins, you have been accepted into our academic program for the year, the semester has already begun and you are required to resume as soon as possible, your uniform and further details will be given to you at the school. We are delighted to have you join our program and expect your appearance soonest The headmistress office “James what is this?” I asked as a frown marred my lips. “You're new school, what does it look like?” he scoffed. “James, I don't need another school now!” I subconsciously raised my voice. “You're going whether you like it or not, I can't have you wasting away in my house,I want you gone Avery, gone!” He shouted this time and tears pricked my eyes. “Every second I look at you, I want you gone, I want you to leave” he said through gritted teeth and I did everything to hold back the tears, I didn't want to cry in front of him. “You look like her Avery, every time I see you, I'm reminded of her” James said in a low voice this time as tears came to his own eyes “James….” He raised a hand to stop me from speaking. “I need to recover from losing your mother Avery, and you need to go to school” he sighed, taking a deep breath. “It's a boarding, it's far from here, you'll only be back on holidays” James sighed and my frown turned into a smile. It was a boarding school and it was far away, this might just be my chance to start over somewhere else, somewhere where no one knows me. “I'll go” I said and James looked up at me, shocked. “It might just be what I need, and I'll be away from your sight just like you wanted” a little smile pulled up at my lips which James didn't miss. “Start packing, we move this evening” he announced before going into his room. I read the letter again. Bridgeford high, here I come….I successfully made it to the second floor, the sun had already gone down and the evening breeze was cool. I stared down the hallway, a feeling of ptsd hitting me. But I knew I had to move, I already had classes here this morning, how hard could it be?I heard the clicking of a door and I froze, the hair on my skin standing.I see Mr Alister walk through the door of our classroom and he's heading straight for me. A few students are passing by, but most have retired to their rooms. My eyes meet his and he holds them, not bothering to look away. The way he stared at me, there was such a longing, if I didn't know any better, I would say it's desire. I had packed my black curly hair in a high pony tail and had Phoebe do light make up, which just consisted of powder and lip gloss, she didn't let me leave otherwise.“G…good evening sir” I greeted.“C…..Avery” he sighed and took a whiff of the air before his eyes landed back on me, the rims of his pupils glowing amber.“I wondered how long
“Take a seat anywhere, Avery” he said gesturing with his hands and I moved glad to be away from the spotlight and try to decide on the three empty seats. I spot one towards the window and hurry towards it. I recognised the face of the person sitting behind the seat, it was the guy with stormy eyes in the hallway and he eyed me warily.I sat on my seat, trying to calm my racing heart when the seat behind me screeched.“Raphael what is it?” The professor asked.“I can't sit here, change my seat” he demanded and I swallowed.“There's nothing wrong with your seat Rapheal, sit down” the professor commanded, clearly not appreciating his tone.“If you don't change my seat, I'll leave. I cannot sit here” he repeated and I scrunched my eyebrows. Did he have a problem with me?I turned to look back at him, his stormy eyes already glaring at me. He suddenly grabbed his bag and walked away, evading me totally. He walked to one of the empty seats and plops down.I suddenly feel weird and the peop
After dinner, my roommates and I began heading to the other block, along with some students, while others stayed behind. As we climbed down to the second flight of stairs, I couldn't help but stare into the hallway, all the lights were back on.“Walk fast” Daphne called in front of me and I doubled my steps to meet up.***Daphne pushed the door open as we entered our room, but Phoebe stayed outside.“I'll see you guys later” Phoebe muttered in a small voice before walking away.“What's that about?” I asked Daphne who shut the door.“Learn not to be nosy, it'll help” she scolded and I looked down embarrassed. “You'll have to keep a low profile, so people won't be too interested in you” She warned.“I know” I replied, I was a little annoyed at her tone but I had no idea what she was and I knew she was just caring for me.I sighed and tossed myself onto the bed, my bones creaked and my muscle ached and soon I embraced the darkness and slept, dreaming of monsters trying to eat me, dark s
“What,"What just happened?” I asked, my voice trembling and Phoebe scoffed.“She's a dragon of course” she rolled her eyes and my lips moved but no words came out. Daphne narrowed her eyes at me and suddenly grabbed my hands, pulling me towards the door and I reluctantly went with her while still shaking.Daphne pushed the door open, I couldn't deny, she was strong and the way she held my hand right now, like she could snap it.Once we were outside in the quiet halls and Daphne turned to me.She looked at my trembling form from head to toe before looking at my eyes.“You're human aren't you?” She asked and I stared at her baffled.“Of course I'm human!” I replied before watching her eyes “aren't you?” I asked, and suddenly a cold feeling passed through my bones.“This is a school for monsters, no one here is human” as she said this I froze, suddenly feeling nauseous. I grabbed my head, it was spinning. "W...what?" my vision blurred before me, the tiredness and frustration was finall
When I came out from the stall, the bathroom was empty, they had probably gone for dinner.I made my way to the halls, it was empty as well and I rushed over to my room, pushing the door open and scanning round. My roommates weren't in, it looked like everyone had gone for dinner, there was a small clock on the wall indicating that it was seven minutes to seven.I quickly applied my lotion before tossing on my pajamas, a pair of sky blue trousers and sky blue top, I tied my hair up in a bun and grabbed my phone before leaving the room.As I closed the door, it dawned on me that I had no idea where the dinner was held and the halls were completely empty.I climbed down the flight of stairs and got to the first floor. It seemed all the floors were rooms only. I made my way out of the building and headed back to the first story, which was the first place I had entered. I took a deep breath and walked through the halls which where also empty and climbed to the second floor. There were maj
I looked down at the paper in my hand, the rooms were on the third story.Once again I made my way through the hall and in front of my arch nemesis, the stairs. I looked around searching for an elevator but there were only stairs. I stared down in disbelief. It's the 21st century, why were there no lifts? I groaned internally and I began to pull my luggage down the stairs. I groaned as I pulled and pulled. I took a break after the first flight of stairs and began to draw in breath. A group of girls passed me by and they giggled, I cussed them out in my head and as they went down one of them tripped and I held in my laughter.I made my way down and walked towards the third story building, pulling my luggage with me. I heard the cawing of a bird and looked up to find somee crows flying above me. It was already evening and the sun had gone down, with the skies turning darker.Soon I arrived at the third story which was also orange but in a brighter shade and mixed with cream colour. I w
