Amir growls, throwing his hands to his side, gathering a dark smoke around him. Trey copies the move but his hands fill with light. Are they going to fight? I want to stop them, but I can't even move. And then they charge forward, wrestling each other to the ground. Their magic colliding in a furious clash of light and darkness. Amir punched Trey. I can feel the pain and I groan. Trey snarls and pulls Amir's face down to his knee. Amirs stumbles back, before he reaches for Trey's shoulder, but Trey side steps him and uses his own momentum to throw him to the ground. Then standing behind Amir, Trey places his hands on Amir's head, sending his bright light into his body.

VANESSA'S POV The battle descended into a brutal, grinding stalemate. The initial, elegant strategies were gone, burned away in the raw furnace of close-quarters combat. The eastern pass was a charnel house, the once-clean air now thick with the coppery stench of blood and the guttural snarls of the dying. Our warriors fought with the desperate courage of those defending their very homes, but the Architect's forces fought with a terrifying, mindless frenzy, fueled by his corrupting magic.

Alder raised both hands in surrender and answered quickly, fear trembling beneath his calm tone. “They took the book! The Book of Damned! You stole my magic!” She screams and lunges forward to grab Willow again, stopped by Zander who moves in front of her as a sort of human shield.

War drums echoed across the compound as Bloodfang forces emerged from the forest like a tide of shadow and steel. From the walls, I could see Kael's banners streaming in the wind that preceded the coming storm crimson cloth marked with the snarling wolf head that had once been my own symbol. "Three hundred warriors, just as the scouts reported," Marcus observed grimly, lowering his spyglass. "Plus siege equipment and what looks like a full complement of battle-mages." Battle-mages. Wolves trained to channel raw pack energy into destructive force. They couldn't match the individual power of an Eclipse Covenant heir, but working together they could level entire sections of wall.
