Finally, there was a small rock path that led a short ways down to a sandy beach. Becky and Rachel were both in little black dresses. The sisters smiled and waved, coming over to greet the four newcomers. Everyone else was outside, and the two led them out towards the backdoor and the deck where the small crowd was milling. "Hi guys!" Kelly called. Everyone turned then and came over to greet the four. "Everyone," Kelly said, "I'd like you to meet one of my very good friends, and my husband's better half when he's working, Kara."

She fixed the floppy hat on her head, then rubbed some extra sunscreen into her pale arms before handing the bottle back to me. I settled back down with my book, glancing out at the waves. Blue water glistened along the shoreline. It was a quiet beach attached to a small town on the gulf side of Florida. The sand was white and fine, the waves soft and refreshing, and the town warm and friendly. It was probably going to be the last time the three of us would be together, now that we had all graduated. "You get any responses on those internships?" Kimberly asked me. I shook my head.

If there hadn't been people around, I would have pinned him to a palm tree and had my way with him. He tugged gently on my hand, pulling me away from the restaurant and toward the beach instead. My light skirt caught the gentle breeze off the ocean and fluttered slightly, threatening to expose me, but I followed him willingly. Ben sat at a small table overlooking the beach reading a newspaper. I nodded respectfully as we passed, earning a slight head bob from him. Aiden ignored him completely.

Trevor didn't say much more and hung up. At noon, the five of them sat together for a seafood feast. In the afternoon, they lounged on the deck, sunbathing and fishing. Shanice, Jamie, and Hector were exhausted from playing. After fishing for a while, they dozed off on their lounge chairs. Beck had some business to attend to and stepped away to make a few calls. When he returned, he saw Celeste still sitting there, reading a book. He had studied finance in college, and though he wasn't too familiar with the book in her hands, it did seem somewhat familiar.

As soon as she disappeared, I turned to Alan. “Out.” “Thank you for your hospitality,” he muttered, shuffling past me with his shoes in hand. I tried not to laugh. It didn’t work. --- Later That Day The Beach The island sun kissed the waves just right, the sky too blue to be real. I sat under a shaded umbrella, sunglasses on, flipping through an old book. “Freya?” I looked up. A man was standing there, tall, broad-shouldered, sun-drenched grin. I blinked. “Caleb?”

I don't want to acknowledge that my mind finds his body attractive and divine. Aiden and his scrawny blonde friend go into the ocean. As I continue to read my book, I notice Aiden gazing up at me occasionally. It's confusing and forces me to turn my back on the ocean. Brianna turns around as well, and her tan starts to show. I only hope that Mr. Aiden doesn't return in search of something he can't have. I didn't come to this secluded beach to get hit on. I came here to hide. Hiding is the only place I feel safe from heartache. I continue to read my book and get lost in the vampire story beneath my gaze. Eventually, Aiden and his friend leave, and the ocean shore rises and falls with the tide
