Fires smoldered in the distance where survivors worked through the night, salvaging what they could. Maxim and Zara climbed a fractured staircase to a balcony that overlooked the city. From here, the devastation was absolute—a sprawl of gray and ember, broken towers leaning like weary sentinels.
