A huge beast emerged from one of the tunnels and one of their fellow passengers screamed in fear. Nio wanted to scream himself, but somehow managed to stop the scream in his throat. As he prepared to fight, the beast slowed down and upon closer inspection Nio realized it was a machine. One of the dwarven hellish inventions.

A minute later, Helena tossed the modified beacon back to Tristan. Tristan keyed the activation switch. The cylinder began to pulse with a slow, steady red light. He didn't record a grand speech. He didn't make a threat. He simply spoke two sentences into the audio receiver. "The math is broken, Aunt Vespera. The ghosts are in the machine." He tossed the active beacon into the cab of the disabled Imperial transport, right onto the driver's seat. "Vane, hook these cargo cars to the *Mammoth*," Tristan ordered, turning away from the convoy. "We leave the engine here for her scouts to find."
