Bushy brows, bald, large nose, a protruding belly, and not such a good looking face, but at least he managed to be tall. “They’re circling.” A thunderous growl tore through the stillness. From the shadows, it emerged, an elite magic beast, hulking and grotesque. Its chitin glistened with black magic, and its horns curved like blades. Eyes glowing crimson locked directly on Aaron. "Move-!" Victor shouted. The beast lunged. But Aaron hadn’t frozen, he’d already sidestepped, blade raised. Yet Victor was faster. In a flash of metal and instinct, Victor leapt between them, driving his sword directly into the beast’s open jaws.

Darrion commented, hugging his bag and looking at Jai. Jai stared back at him. “Clearly. They’re just kids. I don’t think I can stay calm if I see giant chickens running havoc and hurting my friends.” Darrion chuckled. “Orange Beak bird beasts,” he seemingly corrected. “But yeah, they DO look like giant chickens. Just, too big. And too puffy. Even Ostrobo’s appearance makes much more sense.” “Ostrobo?” Jai asked. “Ah they’re like, giant chickens too. But they have longer feet, round beak, and can run fast,” Darrion said.

Just an order. I stepped out, closed the door behind me, and shifted back into my beast form. Stone blurred beneath my paws as I tore through Blackreach, past its gates and straight for the edge of the Whispering Woods. By the time I reached Brammon and Rhydan, the forest line was already crawling with movement. Manticores came first. Dozens of them—their humanlike faces fixed in those eerie, empty expressions. Lion bodies, scorpion tails arched high, each one moving in perfect, unnatural formation.

Most of it I ignored. Until I reached cell 47. He was already standing at the bars waiting for me. Damien Voss. Thirty-two. Six-foot-four, built like a fucking tank — thick muscle, arms covered in prison tattoos, chest broad enough to block the whole cell door. Shaved head, cold gray eyes, and a scar running from his left eyebrow down to his jaw. He had been inside for life on multiple murders. Everyone called him “The Beast.” He smiled slow when I stopped in front of his cell. It was not a friendly smile.

He used his sheer bulk to pin the thrashing beast against the remains of the wooden pyre. ​Elara ran. ​She moved unlike a human. Every stride took power from the twins. Her feet barely touched the blood-soaked snow. She felt the wind whipping her hair into a frenzy. She saw the opening. Kaelen had pinned Vance’s massive shoulders to the ground. His teeth remained buried in the monster’s shoulder to hold him still. The beast beneath him bucked and roared. It was a sound of absolute agony. ​Vance’s chest lay exposed. In the center, a pulsing, violet core was visible through the torn skin. It looked like a rotting fruit made of dark stars.

Lines carved themselves into the surface, forming a circular arena. My devourer stirred, alert but confused. “Today,” Voss said, turning her gaze to me. “We test restraint.” My pulse slowed. That word never meant what she pretended it did. “Zara,” she said, smiling slightly. “You will not consume.” The mirrors flickered. There are no reflections now, but scenes. Faces. Wolves. Hundreds of them. Thousands. Harvested. Frozen in moments of terror, rage, surrender. My breath caught. “You feel them, don’t you?” Voss asked softly.

I paused, “…you will stop me immediately even if physical restraint becomes necessary. No matter what it takes.” “Understood.” Silence returned again, but it did not last long. The clock suddenly chimed once, a sharp sound echoing through the study, then again, then again. A massive wave of dark energy exploded violently through my veins, and my entire body locked in place as pain erupted everywhere at once. Every muscle convulsed beneath my skin, and another growl escaped my throat, except this time it no longer sounded part human. It sounded fully monstrous. My vision flashed amber, then darker, then brighter again as my beast roared.
