The Dual Claim
He kissed my cheek and pushed my chair in.
Everyone sat in their initial seats.
Food was served family style, but no one picked up a platter or bowl.
“Does someone usually bless the meal?”
“Sam does,” the unknown woman said.
Sam cleared his throat. “Luna, thank you for giving us your blessings, good favor, a healthy and happy pack, and most of all our beautiful new daughter and Luna. Blessed be.”
We all chorused Sam’s blessing.
“Dig in,” I said, reaching for a bowl.
