And for a moment, the man who ruled the city felt breakable.
They didn’t speak. They didn’t need to.
The storm outside drowned everything but their breaths, tangled, uneven, real.
When he pulled back, his forehead rested against hers, his voice a whisper.
“This,” he said, “is my biggest mistake.”
“Then why do it?” she asked.
“Because I don’t believe in mercy,” he said. “Not even for myself.”
