He seemed just woken up. I stood up and lifted him. I slowly rocked him, put his head between my neck. "Not yet, Baby. Go to sleep again." "I can't, Mommy. I miss Daddy's bedtime stories." He murmured. "I'll just tell you a story." I sighed. "What bedtime story do you want?" "It's about the King and Queen. The King left his Queen in the war so the enemy got the Queen." What the hell. "Baby, why-" I stopped speaking when the door opened. He was surprised to see us. Reid dropped from my grasp and ran towards Wright.

He tried to soften his usual cold and deep voice, so he slowed down again, “One day, a little mermaid...” “Daddy, don’t you know how to tell stories?” The little girl flattened her lips as she muttered, aggrieved, “Nellie’s Daddy is so powerful, but he can’t tell stories...” Joshua fell silent as he sucked in a deep breath. “Let’s not listen to stories. I sat with my back on the headboard while Aiden and Abby lay on either side of me, with their heads leaning against me as I told them as much as I could remember from one of the bedtime stories Celine and I were usually forced to sit through back at the foster home. We always found it boring and would be among the first kids to do off before she even read two lines from the story, the other kids would fall closely behind, it was that dreadful. But tonight, the kids found my old, half-complete, gap-filled story fascinating enough to listen to as I tried to lull them to sleep.

“Would you tell me a story? My friend Dustin says his mom and dad tell him stories every night, but no one will tell me a story.” My heart melted hearing his request, and I smiled. “Of course, Liam. And you are in luck. I know so many stories.” I picked him up in my arms. “Really?” he said excitedly, burying his head in my neck, making me sigh in content. “Yay.” I tucked him into his bed. I began weaving a tale about a courageous knight who embarked on an epic adventure to save a kingdom from a fearsome dragon. Liam’s eyelids grew heavy as he listened to the tale, and soon he was fast asleep.

It is a few minutes past 7:30 pm and we are preparing to go to bed. We sleep pretty early because we wake up so early too. I and Laura have been at home since she got back from school. I stepped back into the twins' room, feeling defeated, but I couldn't let them see the sadness on my face anymore. Their tears had stopped. I couldn't give them another reason to cry. They curled up in bed with me, and I began telling them a tale my mother always told me before bed when I was a child. It was about dragons, the magical creatures who could breathe fire.

She yelled. “Yes Ma’am.” Stella came and answered. “Are you deaf? Ive called your name twice!” “I'm sorry I was cleaning the windows” Stella answered in a low voice. “Whatever! Go and make 2 glasses of lemonade in 5 minutes and send Zac in my bedroom. Go! Hurry up!” Caroline commanded. Stella went and made 2 glasses of lemonade and went into the master bedroom along with Zac. I noticed Stella taking Zac with her to the master bedroom which didn’t happen often. I quickly ran and took my father along with me and stood outside the bedroom and peeped through the side of the door.

"Can we put Aiden to bed?" Evan requested from Lily and Lucas. "Does he still listen to bedtime stories?" Shantelle asked. "Does he want a glass of milk and a cookie before going to bed?" After Amelia left the nursery, Andrew turned off the lights in the room, leaving only a dim night light. He placed Asher in the small bed and picked up a bedtime storybook.
