Instead of walking toward the huge black gate, I walked away from it. The trees kept increasing as I continued making my way farther away from the mansion. Soon, I found myself standing in front of a forest. It was not uncommon for werewolves to live near a forest and maybe Alpha Orion used the forest whenever he needed time away from everyone. I gulped and took a step inside the forest without thinking much, there was nothing worst that could happen. There was no one who would worry about me or be bothered by my absence. The forest had the fresh scent of freshly bloomed red flowers that were present in large numbers. The trees were tall and covered the sky with their leaves.

She took a step backward, but that seemed to have triggered the creature, as it suddenly let out a loud howling sound—one that sent her heart into her throat. The two large wolves suddenly emerged from behind the trees. Anna wanted to scream, but she was too frozen to let it out. They were larger and bigger than the ones she had seen in pictures—one with white fur and the other with black fur. Both growled at her angrily, like they couldn’t wait a second longer to tear her apart. A tear slipped out of her eyes, and without a second thought, she began running—not on the straight middle path, but she took the path where the trees were planted.

I halted, heart pounding, as I did a three-sixty scan of the surrounding trees and bushes. The dense tall trees were dark and heavy; I picked up no movement. Still, something in the back of my mind screamed danger—a nagging feeling to get out of there. I backed up, Lason in my hands, ready to return to the heart of the pack. Then a blur of motion caught my eye, then another, and out of the cluster of bushes and undergrowth emerged a werewolf. I recoiled, my steps unsteady. Before me stood a hefty, snarling rogue, its strong jaws lined with sharp teeth and dripping saliva.

Sera’s voice carrying behind me, getting smaller with each step. I don’t look back. I walk into the dark. I hear it before I see it: something in the trees ahead, low and fast and wrong. I stop walking. The wolves escorting me stop too. One of them looks at the trees. The other looks at me with the expression of a man who has just decided that whatever is in those trees is my problem now.

The moonlight barely penetrated the thick canopy above, leaving me vulnerable. I could feel the wolf gaining on me. I wove through the trees, branches clawing at my clothes as I pushed forward, eager and desperate to find a safe spot. The eerie energy emanating from the wolf sent shivers down my spine; I couldn’t even attack if I tried. It soared over my head and landed right in front of me on all fours. I halted immediately, my heart raced as I prepared to defend myself. Slowly, the wolf stood on its hind legs, its claws extending outward like vines.

I take a deep breath before pushing myself off the tree powerfully, sending me back into the forest in an attempt to get off this territory before it's too late. But unfortunately, it already is too late. As I step into a space in the forest where a few trees have been cleared out, I notice one Wolf step out from behind the trees, being in full view. It makes me freeze as I stare face to face with it... It is massive, light grey underneath the moonlight, with eyes hazel and glowing. I don't need to guess who sent it... I've heard stories of the wolves that guard the lands in these parts. I know their reputation.

_Alina's POV_ In this ancient and mysterious forest, I led a team of werewolf warriors on a difficult journey to find a cure for the plague. Sunlight filtered through the dense canopy, casting dappled shadows on the damp ground, and the air was thick with the scent of decaying leaves and earth. The forest was alive with sounds: the rustling of leaves, the chirping of insects, and the distant calls of unseen creatures. Every step felt heavy with the weight of our mission, and the knowledge that failure was not an option.

Whatever had happened here, had been horrible and messy, because even the trees had traces of blood on them. I placed a hand on my chin, pondering. Had a werewolf really gone crazy and killed a person? Or had there been an underlying story that we didn't know about. My feet took me to one of the trees. Automatically, my hand reached out and landed on the surface. I didn't expect to find anything, but my vision went dark, and my heart started to race.
