There are plenty of trees on this side and I can hardly see the sun in the sky. Suddenly, an eerie chill runs down my spine and I feel the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. The sound of a branch snapping catches my attention and I whip my head around to see who did it. “Who’s there?” I call out but I’m met with silence. Beast seems suspicious too because he’s on alert now, looking around. Low growls reach me before five big wolves step out from behind the trees and instead of feeling relieved, I am filled with terror.

“We’ll fight together.” The wolf huffed, its glowing eyes locked on hers. There was no fear in its expression now, only fierce determination. But as Zoe took a step forward, her gaze caught something beyond the trees that intertwined at the center of this strange landscape. A faint shape emerged, half-shrouded in shadow, standing beneath the sickly vampire tree.

As I got up from the ground, I looked around to see how far and where I’d run. My heart sank as I realized that I was outside of the town limit, staring ahead at the forest. I gasped aloud as I saw something move behind the trees. Black silhouettes with brimming red eyes bulging from the darkness. From behind the trees, the wolves appeared, snarling at me, baring their teeth as they circled me, trapping me between them.

In the meantime, she lifted her snout to the air, inhaling its freshness, and gloried in the way her legs ate up the ground. Finally, the adrenaline coursing through her began to ebb, and she slackened her pace. Time to get dressed again and return to the bed and breakfast. She loped easily through the trees, but then something caught her eye, bringing her up short. Blinking my eyes open, I notice I’ve been washed up onto a river bank. It’s night out so I must have drifted and been out for a long while. Shifting I try to pull myself to a seated position, when a searing pain shoots across my back. Biting my lip until I taste blood to not cry out in pain after what feels like forever I’m finally able to drag myself to a seated positon, carefully resting my back against one of the very large trees in the grove.
