I start the dough. My grandmother taught me this recipe before she died. Her name was Marcus, which everyone thought was odd for a woman, which she found absolutely hilarious. She used to say the name suited her perfectly because she was odd for a woman too. Gloria thought everything Grandma Marcus did was embarrassing. Grandma Marcus thought Gloria was the funniest joke God ever told. I sided with my grandmother on everything, which was the only sensible position available. Gloria never understood anything that couldn't be sold. Grandma Marcus understood everything that mattered.

Max suddenly said making me pinch his thigh, he gasped and hissed in pain as I pinched his thigh harder. "Don't leave me alone." My eyes meet his eyes to transfer the message. "I can't! I have to go." He sent me a look like this and cocked his head toward the door. "Are you guys doing telepathy or what?" My father boomed. "No sir!" Max said sternly, as he stood up straight. I chuckled silently. My dad was in the military force back in the 90s, he has held an aura of military and of course, that will make everyone afraid of him, except my mom who fell in love with his intelligence and body, mostly his body. But she loves him just like he loves her.

Author’s POV "Brat!!!!" Grandpa Cruz yelled, coming as fast as he could and taking Max by the ear to pull him closer to him. "Grandpa!" Max said laughing. "I am an alpha and you make me look like a two year old kid." “Shut up! And let me see your neck! Holy goddess! Thank you! Now I can die and my white hair can descend quietly into the mortuary pit. This brat is finally an honorable man! ”

Sometimes Grandma seems older than she is. I didn’t ask anything else about Ben or his roommates while we unpacked. Max went off to get Grayson, and when she found out what we’d brought her, she’d come flying down the stairs, making quite a ruckus. It was sort of funny, but grandma didn’t think so. Once Grayson grabbed what she wanted and disappeared upstairs, Max grabbed a beer and went outside. I knew he had work to do, but I figured it wasn’t my place to tell him most people frowned upon their employees drinking during the work day. They probably also frowned upon shopping trips in the middle of the day….

“Mommy was soooo annoying today! I just said I didn’t wanna take a bath and she went off like the news on TV!” Pascha chuckled softly, lifting Max into his arms without effort, “Oh yeah?” Pascha shot me a quick glance, half a smile playing on his lips. “Well, you do need a bath now, little commander. Grandpa and Grandma are here from Napa. They’re taking you out today. Summer break trip, remember?” And right then, I saw it, the way Max’s eyes lit up like headlights, his expression flipping from grumpy to thrilled, the excitement almost too big for his little body.

I snarled, standing up, but Grandpa intervened, “Show some respect, Max!” Grandpa scolded, pointing at Max with his index finger angrily. Elder Nira approached Max. “What truth are you referring to?” she asked calmly. Max pushed her hand away, face contorted in disgust. She stumbled but quickly regained her footing, eyes widening in shock. Max turned his gaze angrily towards Grandpa's, a flash of hurt evident in his eyes. It was clear he was upset about being scolded because of me again, but he quickly composed himself and glared at Grandpa with intense hatred.

, wow that was the biggest surprise, that old man had accepted max as his blood and yet he always acted like he didnt like or care about him "Max, what does grandpa tell you when he comes to visit?" I asked, not that I didnt trust the older woman but I had just met her, for all I knew, she was paid to say all this to me by Mr Madison "He buys me a lot of toys and ice cream and then he reads me stories and tells me that you and Dad love me so much" "He does?"
