“Rabid sonofabitch— Randy!” Subtly lowering the book resting on her raised knees, Parisa peered at her caretaker leaning alarmingly over the rooftop’s bannister; one hand gripping the rail while the other pointed a gnarled finger at the accused below. “Randy! I done seen you already! Leave that girl alone! Hear me?” Yarrow paused, head tilting to the side as though the person below had spoken just quiet enough to escape the creature’s hearing threshold.

The machine hummed like a restless heartbeat, the needle gliding across skin as Ayla Cross filled the curve of a raven’s wing with black ink. The smell of antiseptic and cedar oil wrapped around her, the familiar perfume of creation. Outside, rain streaked the windows of The Runed Den, her little shop tucked between a pawn store and a bakery that stayed open too late.

Sid replies wiggling his eyebrows. “Sounds good to me, but who’s Alice” Angel asked laughing at Sid. “Alice is Bensons mate she’s like a sister to me we all grew up together. You’re going to love her” I told her. As we made our way to the pack house lounge I spotted Alice in the kitchen making popcorn. I told Angel to go get comfy as I went to help Alice carry the snacks into the lounge. “You know your meant to help your mate” I told Benson chucking a bit of popcorn at him as we came into the lounge.

“He’s a projection. A ghost made of light.” The boy turned his silver stare on Maya. He tilted his head, sizing her up, almost scientific. “I am the Goodbye, Maya. My brothers and sisters left for the stars. I stayed behind. I have to collect the ink you used to change the story.” A sharp pain shot through Maya’s hand. The silver blood pulsed faster, dripping onto the cold floor. Wherever it touched, tiny silver flowers sprang up, their petals sharp as knives. “What ink?” Maya’s voice shook. “I gave you the map! I saved your life!”

The barrier bent under the pressure, flickering violently, the glow pulsing like it might shatter at any second. “Go!” Alice screamed as she struggled. “I can’t hold it!” I could see her legs shaking, her body trembling as the darkness pressed harder. The blue light around us started to crack, thin lines spidering through the magic like fractures in glass. Vincent moved so fast I barely saw him. One blink, and he was gone. The next, he was in front of Angelica. He smashed into her. Her body flying backward, smashing into the wall with a sickening crack.

A boy about five or six is lying across a woman's body, crying no Papa over and over. I break the connection with Florence, I don’t even realise I am crying until Arrow cups my face “Angel, what happened? Where did you go?” I blink a bit confused, what does he mean where did I go. I am standing where I was. “Angel you zoned out for a moment” I look at them all “I just saw what I assume was your memories” I say to the woman who is watching me looking confused.

Angel leaned on Amber's shoulder and cried softly. Suddenly, Fred moved his finger and the machine beside him beeped, he had regained consciousness

Scoffing, I rolled my eyes and went to protest when the ass spoke. "Nothing is too much for you, Alice. Abigail here just told me that she loves your collection of dolls; she is hoping you would show her them properly." His voice was so full of sincerity that it had her beaming from ear to ear and me stamping on his foot with my boot. Seeming unfazed, he pulled his foot away, pushing me forward, and waved to me sarcastically as Alice took an iron-tight grip of my arm and pulled me over to her collection of creepy dolls or, as she referred to them… her children. She was reeling off each name as if I was meant to mesmerise them.
