Beneath A Marble Sky Novels & Stories

I felt the vibration through the silver-mercury conduits lacing the dais—Marek’s marrow was humming with the frantic, uncoordinated frequency of a man who had already surrendered his soul to the sky. "Don't move, boy," Marek rasped, his eyes fixed on the silver-gray silhouette drifting through the open ceiling. "Can't you hear her? She's the Mother. She's the rock. If the rock says lay down the steel, we lay it down. I won't have your blood on my hands when the sky closes its teeth."

I‍ had used my sleep‌ing husband’s w‌ill to do it. I watc‌hed the sky transition from a s‍uffocating black to a bruis‌ed, dir‌ty grey. A subtle feeling of dismay threatened to smother the hope humming in her chest at the realisation that her weekly outdoor allowance had been used up. “Come here.” Parisa nearly started upright. Forgoing the idea of masking indifference at her reply, she began climbing off the bench whilst wrestling futilely with the shoal wrapped about her limbs like vines. “Really?” Yarrow shrugged, “Sun should be settin’ by now anyway.” And it was— the evening light now lingered along the rooftop in soft hues of tangerine and blushing pink, warm as sun-hot stones pressed against her skin. “Fore you come on up slap on some that sunscreen o’er there.”

They may not like me, but at least when they're near, other students can't kill me. Ahead of me, Rowan, Seyla, and Lyra, all link arms as they giggle in excitement. I slow my pace slightly to keep a distance. I don't want my sour mood to bring down theirs. I glance up at the night sky, and I gasp. I stop walking altogether as I take in the millions of stars lighting the sky. I almost forgot how beautiful the night sky is.

She buried herself under her blankets, letting the silence consume her as she tried to ignore the pounding of her own heart. In the dimness of her room, as daylight faded and the shadows grew long, Channary clutched her pillow, sinking deeper into her shame. The Moon had betrayed her, left her vulnerable, her mate unclaimed. She was the Alpha’s daughter, Moon-Kissed and blessed, yet here she was, abandoned and marked only by the emptiness of broken promises.

Zayden jerked his head up A car was stopped right in front of him. He tried to swerve, but the wet, icy road betrayed him. The tires lost grip. The steering wheel spun under his hands. The vehicle skidded across the slick pavement Then everything flipped. Metal screamed. Glass shattered. The world turned upside down. And then... Silence. Cold. Dark. The snow outside continued falling, calm and steady… as his crumpled car lay still on the side of the road. *****

I went in there and took all the security measures that were recommended; when the toy started to rotate it was gradual, little by little I could feel that we were leaving the place, slowly, my eyes roamed all the space around us; the couple in the seat above us and two friends below; as we approached the top, I felt like we were floating and going higher and higher; adrenaline was replaced by fear as our seat began to move so slowly that we seemed to be standing there; a thin, involuntary scream rose from my throat at the exact moment that our seat seemed to move in the air; Benjamim grabbed my hand tightly and asked me to stay calm, that this was part of the experience. I took a deep breat

The two express their approval, and I whisk Hermione away. The moment we're out of sight, Hermione snatches her hand out of my hold. "I was looking forward to that," I murmur, linking my hands behind my back. We both settle into a leisurely pace, taking in the view. The property is expansive, covered with greenery and golden brown sand that looks darker as the sun recedes below the horizon. Fluorescent lamps glow overhead, illuminating every path now bathed in darkness as the moon sets. The sky is a dark grey blanket with stars dotting the unclouded parts. The moon is faint, shrouded in smoky clouds.

Back to Present Smoke thickened around her as she tried gaining access to the main building, the flames kept getting fierce and making it hard for her to move, but Aria pushed through, coughing, her skin peeling as she reached the underground study bookshelf where her father was. “Dad!” she cried, choking. “Dad, please answer me!” She pushed the door open. Smoke gushed out, and through the thick air, she saw him lying still beside his desk. "No!" she screamed, running to him and covering his body with hers. "You can't die! Please, Daddy, please!"

Marcus's eyes limited as he looked up at the sky, his body straining impulses. Clara felt it as well, a faint, almost intangible shift within the air, just like the waiting reverberate of a bad dream that hadn't completely blurred. Ethan and Mariam, standing a few feet away, exchanged a look of concern. "Did you feel that?" Ethan asked, his voice low. Mariam nodded, her eyes scanning the horizon. "It’s not over." Immediately Marcus turned to speak, a stunning thunder resounded over the sky, shaking the ground underneath their feet. The sky obscured, and from the mountains afar off, an enormous, tremendous figure started to rise, a figure that was all too familiar.
