Benedict X Novels & Stories

A petite figure roamed up and down the corridors of the hotel. Just as Phelan left the room, the man in the bed opened his eyes. His eyes were sharp like a hawk. The hidden bodyguard who was then Don Carlton looked at him, wondering whether he should go after her or not, as he cast his eyes on the man in bed. Don Carlton thought for a moment and went forward and knocked on the opened door of the presidential suite. “Come in,” the man in bed said. His voice was as cold as ice. Don man walked into the room and saluted respectfully, “Young Master.”

, the old man said, staring back at Manuel with the same cockiness. The man was Councillor Calhoun. He had been on the council since he was a young man at about twenty years of age. He had held his seat for years, watching many Alpha King's ascend and fall. His voice was the strongest in the entire council. Manuel shot an eyebrow up at him questioningly. I too watched with curiosity. It was strange that the council had asked for a meeting out of nowhere and I was eager to know what was going on. “Vincenzo is dead”, Calhoun announced.

"Even a schoolboy would know that!" Xavier swats his hand away, scowling. "Oh, as if you could name the tenth king. Go on, try it!" "That's different," Benedict protests, his words slightly slurred. "You should have at least known the sixth king," Xavier counters with a smirk. "He shared your name, you complete idiot." Benedict puffs up his chest indignantly. "If any king had been named 'Idiot,' he would clearly have been named after you!"

Ben said to him. "And that's why I want you to do it in less than an hour; I'm counting on you. I will try speaking with the priest, and since we know each other, I will tell him to plead with the audience to have a little patience," Xavier said to Ben before handing him his car keys and telling him the password. Before Ben would even try to protest, Xavier had already left. "Damnit," Ben muttered in disbelief. To be continued...

“They are well known. I’m sure you heard it on the news. Their leader, Laureano Vitale, is old school.” My spine straightened, and I froze. Laureano? My heart hammered as I realized that Domenico really didn’t know who I was. At all. “I thought the leader’s name was something like Thomas.” “Tommaso,” he corrected. “He died a few years ago and his brother Laureano took over.” I stared at him as tears welled in my eyes. “What’s wrong?” Domenico asked as he moved to sit beside me. His finger tipped my chin up.

He grabbed his TracPhone from next to the laptop, took a breath and dialed. A few rings, a click, and then: “St. Mary’s of Indian Lake.” With false cheer—his insides twisting at yet more lies—Father Ward said, “Good evening. This is Father Bennington, from St. John the Evangelist in Binghamton. A relative of one of my parishioners attends your church and heard Father Thomas of All Saints speak there last night. We’ve been searching for special guests for an upcoming series, and we were wondering what you thought of him?”

That alone said enough. Power did not need introductions. Benedict studied Estella quietly for several seconds. Not disrespectfully. But carefully. As if examining something long forgotten. “I’ve heard quite a lot about you lately,” he finally said. Estella offered a polite smile. “I hope nothing too troublesome.” Benedict chuckled softly. Interesting. Most people became visibly nervous speaking to him. But not this woman. “Your father was a brilliant man,” Benedict said calmly. “Too principled for this world.”
