Jeffrey stopped walking. He looked at Ben like he was an insect, his lip—where I had bitten it—still slightly swollen.
"I’m not in college," Jeffrey said, his voice deep and flat, devoid of the friendly university tone.
"Oh, right, hanging out for your cousin, huh? That's cool. Good family guy." Ben clapped him lightly on the shoulder.
Jeffrey physically flinched at the innocent touch. It was too casual, too pure. He looked ready to break Ben's arm off and beat him with it.
