"It's a party boss, it doesn't matter how much we drink" The black haired spoke with an Italian accent, obviously tipsy. The bar tender pushed a glass to me and I murmured a half thank you. Jim stood up smiling and missing one step after the other " I am gonna go talk to that burnet" he pointed to a girl who wasn't a burnet but dark haired. I nodded and held Emma back as she moved to follow him. " can't I go dance?" She asked

"I want you to please think about the beautiful future we'll have together, and do not deny us that happiness, please." She fought so hard to control the tears rolling from her eyes, but couldn't. He loved her, despite everything that had happened, he still loved her. In spite of everything, he had fallen in love with her broken self. What more does she need from a man? Nothing. She wiped the tears from her eyes, and remember the days she felt as though her heart was being chained and caged. Which made her think of cages and chains, which in turn almost caused a hysterical bubble of laughter to burst in her throat. Swallowing both tears and laughter, she said softly. "Let's go home, Abdul."

In his time as a True Crime writer, Byron had interviewed many people, many of them disturbed or troubled in some way. In these interviews, he would often run up against what he called The Breakdown, to the point where, due to the pressures of telling him their story a person would hit an unknown well of feelings and just… shut down, usually in a maelstrom of tears. They always recovered but it was at a point that Byron always hated, even dreaded.

I only had a cup of coffee for breakfast. Finally, I was done eating. I cleaned my mouth, settled my bills, and headed out. However, I was just so unlucky. I bumped into a guy who was holding a cup of wine in one hand and the bottle in the other. Unfortunately, the wine in the cup poured on my body while the bottle fell on the floor and broke. It was the guy's fault. He wasn't looking at where he was going. I felt so embarrassed as my cloth got ruined. ' What's your problem? What's all this? Couldn't you focus on where you were going?' I yelled angrily.

"But strength without the will to use it is useless. Mercy is a luxury we cannot have. It is a crack in your armor. And cracks get people killed." He turned and walked away. His footsteps echoed. I stood there, the gun still heavy in my hand. Jaxon came to stand beside me. "He is not wrong," Jaxon said quietly. "I know," I whispered. "But I am not wrong either." I held the gun out to him. He took it. His fingers touched mine. "What happens now?" I asked. "Now?" Jaxon took the bullets out of the gun. "Now he is disappointed. But he is also more interested than ever. You did not break. You just bent in your own way. He does not know what to do with that."

Healing was not linear. But tonight, something fundamental had shifted. Her walls had not shattered. They had opened. And as she turned off the lights and prepared for sleep, a quiet certainty settled inside her: This was not a reckless leap. It was a careful unfolding. And for the first time since everything had broken, she was no longer bracing for impact. She was leaning into possibility.

The light in his eyes had been extinguished completely. The tide of time could not be undone, and shattered vows could never be restored.

We did not fracture under pressure anymore. We reinforced.
