Her concern for me had only ever been for my bank account. Perhaps she had never loved me or tried to understand the real me at all. A wave of calm rose from somewhere deep inside me, overpowering all my anger. I lowered the hand clutching my face and looked directly at her. My voice was so steady that it surprised even me. He howls and tries to shake me off, but I sink my teeth into his shoulder until I hear bone crunch. Another slams into me from the side. Pain explodes in my ribs. I responded, jumping at him. I don't know when the shift happens, but there's nothing but paws, fur and claws when I land atop him, rolling and clawing at his face. "Berserker" Jeremy hisses at me, before bursting into maniacal laughter. "I'd know that look in your eye anywhere." My wolf clawed at my insides to find the omega and claim her as ours. My whole world narrowed down to getting to the omega before some other alpha beat me to it. “Of course.” She gave me a bright smile, fluffing up her brown hair. “Thanks.”

He simply advanced, heavier than the others, his presence forcing space around him as if the fight itself adjusted to accommodate it. “Here we go,” Hayes muttered, bracing properly now. The first hit landed with real force. The impact slammed into his shield and carried through it, forcing him back as the strain travelled straight through his arms. “Jesus,” Hayes hissed. “My arms have gone numb.” Hayley pushed more into him, but even that didn’t fully stabilise the damage. The berserker didn’t slow down. He stepped in again, faster this time, the weapon rising and coming down with intent.
