They just follow her around like sheep with the hopes that she’ll notice them one day. I’m home in time to tuck Betsy in, and for the first day in weeks I can read her a bedtime story. She falls asleep long before I’m done, but I keep going until I reach the end of the book. It’s soothing, sitting here with her, listening to my own voice and her deep, even breathing. It calms my nerves a little.

I let myself sucked into the book, that I don't even notice when Dark sits beside me. He puts one hand on my leg and tells me good morning.
