Best Russian Literature Novels & Stories

"Well, sometimes I watch T.V. I like, well, love to read. So I do that a lot when I'm alone." "Like what? Romance, crime thrillers?" I shrugged. "Sometimes. I really like the classics. Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, George Elliot (who was a woman, by the way). I also like the Russians, like Tolstoy and Dostoevsky. 'War and Peace' is amazing." "You've read 'War and Peace'?" "Yeah, twice. It's excellent." I cocked my head. "How about you, what do you like to read?"

I leaned in a fraction of an inch, a teasing glint in my eyes, "I prefer classic literature. Russian realism, psychological thrillers. Dostoyevsky, Fitzgerald, Hemingway. I like substance." "Substance?!" Ruby mocked, completely offended. "Are you implying my romance novels don't have substance? Excuse you, but enemies-to-lovers tropes require intense psychological maneuvering! The angst! The tension! It's art, Alexander. Your little Russian thrillers have nothing on a slow-burn romance."

Stella asked. Bellamy nodded and replied, "You know that I like reading. What would you recommend?" Stella remembered the time he taught her Russian. It had been five and a half years since then, but she still remembered his charm and coldness. She said in Russian, "Have you read 'Sin and Punishment'? I think that it's quite interesting. Do you want to have a look at it?" Bellamy was stunned for a moment. He chuckled and replied in Russian, "I've seen all these Russian novels. Why don't you recommend me something special?"

After they had finished their meal, Helen kept the dishes as she spoke up, “Sophie, help me speak to the guard at the door later. Ask them to help me buy some books.” Sophie nodded as she asked her, “Mom, what kind of books do you want to read?” Helen smiled as she said, “I’m suddenly beginning to miss the most popular literary works in Oskia when we were young. It is a group of classic masterpieces from the former Soviet Union era, such as 'How Steel was Tempered', 'The Dawns Here are Quiet', and 'And Quiet Flows the Don'. At that time, the most famous films in theaters were also films from the former Soviet Union era. The most famous one was 'Lenin in 1918'.”

“Oh? And how do you find it?” “Depressing. But it was either that or War and Peace, so.” A low chuckle left his lips. “My personal recommendation would be Crime and Punishment, but we do have more to our library than Russian literature, you know.” Dani played with her soup, changing the topic. “You said you had some business to attend to in the area?” One of the servants returned, carrying a plate of steak. It was perfectly cooked to her request, garnished with shallots and carrots.

image he worked so hard to maintain. I closed the closet, still grinning, and wandered into his bedroom. On his nightstand I found more books, all by Fyodor Dostoevsky: Crime and Punishment, Notes from Underground, The Idiot, White Nights. I picked one up and flipped through it. The pages were worn, corners folded and some lines underlined. He wasn't just pretending to like this stuff, he really was a superfan of Russian literature. I didn't believe it when he first told me, but now I believed it without a doubt.
