I was alone again, except for Jasmine’s steady warmth at my side.
Morlun’s voice returned, quieter now, thoughtful. “So… you would trust not the mask but the soul beneath. Even though you're blind, you see more than mostb. people.”
My heart hammered in my chest, sweat dripping down my temples.
“You have passed,” Morlun whispered. “But know this; betrayal still waits in every shadow. Even your own heart can deceive you.”
Then the presence was gone.
The mountain felt lighter, as though the heavy breath it had held was finally released. Jasmine nuzzled my hand, whining softly. I sank down to the ground, clutching her close, my whole body trembling with exhaustion and relief.
