Hardin breaks the silence. Turning to face him, I replied "yeah. We do this once every month. Sometimes we skip a month, usually the exam period. But I'm not always allowed to come though. But first, tell me why you are friends with him?” I asked, and he smiled again. “I'm not just friends with him. We are actually distant cousins. Maternal distance cousins! Remember what I said about being like-minded with the CEO?” He asked and I remembered it. “You are actually cousins! And he had the nerve to assume we are fucking each other?” I asked and he laughs out softly.

I chuckled, “Okay fine I promise.” We connected our pink fingers together for a few seconds and pulled away. But we all knew promises were meant to be broken.

I was too drained to care. I went straight to class and dropped into my seat, pulling out my notebook. The door opened. Our teacher stepped in—and behind him was Liam. “Good morning class” the teacher greeted. Liam walked over calmly and sat next to me. Here's a revised version: "Hey," he said softly. "Uh... hi," I replied, not sure how to act. Class started, but I couldn’t stop noticing him next to me. At one point, he leaned closer. “Do you mind helping me later?” he whispered. “I’m still catching up. Maybe we could partner for the history project.”

Still confused, I looked up at him and he squinted. "Do we?" With that rhetorical question, he walked out of the classroom, leaving me behind. Flustered and confused with my heart beating fast. Sighing and groaning, I kept stuffing my books in my bag as my best friend screamed over the phone. "God, Naza, why did you miss school? Why are you sick?"
