She reached out to hug my legs, but I coldly stepped away. She didn't get mad. She simply covered her face and wept uncontrollably. "I regret it so much. How could I have been so blind? I shouldn't have defended that good-for-nothing! He's gone mad! This morning, just because breakfast was a bit cold, he cut a long gash on my arm with a pair of scissors!" Mom rolled up her sleeve, revealing a fresh, unhealed wound on her forearm, and sobbed breathlessly. Dad also walked in, his eyes teary. He placed a stamped document on the table.

I remembered how Edwin used to talk, so I stood up for my mother-in-law, "Edwin, you can't be so unkind. Your mom is only trying to help you. She's your mom; she wouldn't hurt you on purpose, right? "She worked so hard to raise you. She's always been careful with money, and she didn't mean to make a mistake. Can't you be a little more understanding?" I used to hear Edwin say those things when I was sick or when Teresa went to the hospital because of expired formula. Now, I was using his own words to see if he really was the devoted son he claimed to be. My words made everyone in the hospital ward look at Edwin, and they were all watching to see what he would do next.

A story that was never about finding the perfect world, but about building one, step by step, hand in hand. And so, the story of "Between Two Worlds" came to a close. But in my heart, I knew it wasn’t truly over—it was just beginning. Cars sped past like lightning, tall buildings touched the sky, and the air smelled like metal and smoke instead of firewood and rain. But she wasn’t alone anymore. Mike walked beside her with his hands in his pockets, explaining things she didn’t understand. James trailed behind them, spinning a pen between his fingers like a weapon. Bridget bounced around them, excited as always, pointing at anything shiny.
