David whispered, “You’re safe, little one. I promise.”
Judy closed her eyes, taking comfort in his words. But even as she rested, the faint sound of the city outside reminded them that not everything was safe. Shadows moved, distant sirens wailed, and the unknown woman across town planned silently.
The night seemed calm, but both David and the baby had unknowable danger lurking somewhere.
And somewhere across the city, the woman sat again by her window, looking at the mansion lights in the distance. “David Jones,” she whispered, “you think you’re safe. But tonight… tonight is just the beginning.”
