This was officially a fundraiser, but underneath, it was simply a show-off between billionaires eager to show off their meager sums of money. The show-off was also held in a glittering venue filled with expensive alcohol. It was a stark contrast to the mission of "fundraising" for those in need. Archer himself wasn't sure the money would actually reach the poor and needy.

CHRISTIAN’S POV The grandeur of the masquerade gala unfolded around me as Khalid and I engaged in a conversation, with a glass of champagne in our hands. I wonder who always hosted these masquerade auctions. Rumors say that it's some godfather in the mafia that we don’t know about, I couldn’t care less about rumors. I only saw it an as opportunity for rich people to buy stuff they don’t need and flaunt their money in their rival’s faces.

I don’t trust myself to create the perfect makeup for such an event, and it was worth every penny. I adjust my mask, and take in a deep breath. I am nervous. This is my first time not just attending a masquerade ball, but one that is being attended by the who and who in the society, the big names, from politicians to billionaires, and without forgetting the leaders of the mafia groups. I don’t even know how such groups get to mingle because from all I know about mafia groups is that they are criminals, an abomination in society, thieves, and selfish individuals, but I guess that’s kind of everyone here. The place smells of expensive perfume and the faint hint of cigar smoke.

Adrian's POV The Masquerade wasn’t optional. That was the first lie people told themselves about it every year. They liked to pretend it was tradition…….Or charity…..Or networking while dressing up in black tie and champagne. Truth was simpler: if you were the biggest billionaire in New York, you hosted it. Period……You didn’t opt out…..You didn’t reschedule…..You didn’t fake the flu. Unfortunately I was that billionaire. You showed up and greeted guests and even potential clients…… letting everyone see you still owned the room.

It was so bizarrely, hilariously human that it was almost believable.
