I mutter, and when she looks at me, I ask, “If I decide to run away from this place, would you want to come with me?”
Beth goes silent, before shrugging. “I dunno. I mean you’re my first real friend, Taylor.”
“I’m asking because you seem happy here.”
“Because I’m with you,” Beth mumbles softly, hunching her shoulders. “I’m just glad we’re together. Any time something bad happens to me, you’ve helped me out. I’ve never had that.”
It’s not a yes or a no, but she’s also said quite a lot.
