"Bottom three shelves. Look for dark leather bindings. Look for titles about blood ties or sympathetic bonds." The three scholars walked exactly where he pointed. They did not waste time. They crouched down and began reading the titles on the spines of the books. They did not open them unless the title was right. I stood by the iron door. I watched them work. They moved fast. They were a unified team. Ten minutes passed. Then fifteen. "I have records on bone healing," one of the older men said, pushing a book back into place. "I have plant poisons," one of the young scholar said.

The study was dark, so I opened the blinds and took in the room. It was very... August. Brown. Black. More black. Not a single color brave enough to survive in here. There was a minibar. I wasn't surprised to find it stocked mostly with expensive whiskey. The bookshelf took up almost an entire wall. Business books. Finance books. Leadership books. Books about making money. Books about keeping money. Books about probably becoming even more unbearable than he already was. Not one novel. Not even a guilty pleasure romance. What a sad life.

Rows of towering bookshelves stretched into the gloom, filled with books bound in leather that looked suspiciously like skin. "Where do we start?" I whispered, overwhelmed. "Section X," Killian said, walking straight to the back. " The Anomalies." We spent hours pulling books. The Red Moon of 1402. The Feral Plague. The Betrayal of the South. Dust coated my fingers. My back ached. But I kept reading. "Here," Killian said suddenly. His voice was tight. I rushed over to the table where he was standing. He had a massive, crumbling book open.

“What the bloody hell is that?” I moved away from Ryker, my eyes were solely fixated on the book. Wiping away the shattered glasses, I did not care if it would hurt me. Once it was clean, I read the book to Ryker. “It is the Book of The Damned.” All I wanted was to get a hold of that book and satisfy my curiosity but when I did, I could feel the power surging from the book, my hands were painfully attached to it. Then the book opened, forcing my palm to hold it up the pages started to flip rapidly. So many images flashed through my mind but none of which I recalled. The book slammed shut and I blinked. I turned to Ryker and swallowed before finding my voice to speak, “Did you see that?”

My vision suddenly goes blurry. Although my ears were ringing, I heard Lucas’ faint and musculine chuckle. A moment later, hands were gripping me by the upper arm to help me stand, but my head was so heavy that it fell back. Chase. My bloody savior. But standing was an obstacle. I remain on the floor. Then I start to hyperventilate. It was like I was underwater; the haziness, the drowning voices, and the suffocating ache in my chest.

Gray asks him, as we all take in the wreckage that was our camp. Strips of cloth and bent and broken metal, that just a few hours ago were tents, lay in tatters, skewered all over the ground. Tons of blood stains the dark brown forest floor. Torn pieces of bloodied flesh scattered across our campsite. I can’t help the sigh that escapes my lips. Luckily, nobody is paying any attention to me. “They’ll be okay,” Bo answers, his blue eyes dark with the reality of our current situation. “I’m just glad we haven’t been giving the new ones any wolfsbane. Who knows? Maybe they’ll learn to control it on their own.”

While still talking to Alex, Damian continued to search for other books that might contain records of events similar to the current incident. "If I'm not mistaken, everything that happened in the past is written in the book in front of you, Alex. I can't say if what you're looking for is in that book or not, but as far as I can remember all the cases of vampire murders are in that book." Damian said as he continued to look through the other books. "Is that the only book? My memory is getting harder and harder to work with! Maybe it's time for an old vampire like me to lock myself away in a remote castle on top of a mountain." He exclaimed then sat down next to Alex.
