The coppery smell of the warm red liquid filled the air, making my nose wrinkle in disgust. I rubbed my blood-covered hands through my hair. The rage simmered as the adrenaline left my body. It was like I was stuck in a haze. Why was I covered in blood, and who did it belong to?

Its pages were yellowed and brittle with age, covered in an elegant, spidery script that spoke of centuries of secrets. "This is the Blood Ledger," Finch said, his voice as calm and deep as a forest pool at midnight. He adjusted his gold-rimmed spectacles, his long, slender fingers tracing the embossed, blood-red title on the cover with a historian's reverence. I looked down to see my own blood, pooling over the open pages of the book given to me by the sprites, a blade with black diamonds on the hilt and a large deep red ruby sitting inside a metal frame at the base of the handle, protruded from my stomach. Gasping I could feel my life fade away, I took one last look to see that Joshua had been ran through, his lifeless body laid crumpled on the cold bloody ground. I could hardly recognize the scream of terror that escaped my lips before I felt my life leave my body. Draven.

Dad grabbed the nurse, throwing her out of the room alongside himself. "Well-done, Emily, you have accomplished your mission." A sinister scent emerged, a wicked laugh echoing across the room.
