A scream tore from Ralph's throat as Gina toppled over the edge. But before gravity claimed her, a strong grip clamped onto her wrist. Boris, eyes wide with shock, had lunged forward, snatching her back from the abyss. He dragged her back onto the rooftop, her heart hammering against her ribs; she couldn’t believe she just saw her life flash before her eyes in a second. Gina sat sprawled on the concrete, gasping for breath, the world tilting around her.

Water and all, free-flying and confused as clothing and limbs become weightless and light, loosening their grip on me and tugging upwards before the deep, heavy sink of falling. I’m shot out of a waterfall at speed and arc in an ungraceful, long free-fall into a deep pool at the bottom, along with every other floating prisoner around me. Crashing with logs, branches, leaves, and god knows what else that makes it impossible to fight as we’re all churned up in frothy bubbling water below the falls and deposited some feet away on the verge of death. It all happens so fast, I can’t even tell if I am upright or dead.
