I begged silently, my heart pounding violently against my ribs as I struggled to keep my balance.
I couldn’t fall, I couldn’t lose control, not now, not when there was so much at stake, but the moment three wolves lunged at me at the same time, I knew I had already lost that fight.
I tried to step back, to escape their reach, but my foot slipped against loose gravel, and in that single, unforgiving moment, my balance gave out completely.
