David Riches, the skipper shouted, puffing thoughtfully on the stump of a hand-rolled cigarette. And there she was. Three hundred feet of sheer black cliff streaked with white, rising out of the straight sea in front of us. Almost in that same moment, as the mist cleared, splinters of sunlight fell through the fissures in the cloud and the glistening rock was thrown into an instant projection of sharply contrasting light and shade. I saw what looked like snow blowing in a steady stream from the peak before I realized that the snowflakes were birds. Fabulous white birds with blue-black wingtips and yellow heads, a wingspan of nearly two metres. Gannets. Thousands of them, filling the sk

As they glided in swiftness, a flash of rich browns and brilliant blues followed them in a trail. Then slowly, they switched their pace, disappearing into blurry lines that were too much of a strain in the eye to follow. And in one swift motion none of them could predict, all birds fast-attacked the crystal—all coming from different directions. The contact caused a series of explosions, dissipating the birds in the process. But its aftermath left them tumbling on their backs as it caused the ground to tremor. The amount of power those harmless-looking little birds had was too much. It became a reminder that they shouldn’t be underestimated.

"We've lost the advantage. We should withdraw!" When she said that, Hannah looked respectful. Even though the Phoenix clan was the king of birds, they were much inferior to the Red Sparrow clan in terms of qualification. Red Sparrow was one of the four innate beasts that existed right after the creation of the world. The Red Sparrows were the ancestors of many different clans of birds. Like the Red Sparrow Queen, Hannah felt that the Flying Feathers Alliance was winning the battle. However, after Darryl reversed the situation, Hannah knew that the Flying Feathers Alliance had lost the battle.

Even my heart skipped a beat! But suddenly, quick shadows flickered overhead and a rusty scream echoed over the Citadel. Lesana opened her eyes in horror and they reflected black birds soaring in circles. Crows... Harbingers of death, scavengers. Their hoarse voice fell from the sky, echoing. Where are these nasty birds from? And why won't anyone chase them away? Cold sweat trickled down between her shoulder blades. Everyone knows: where the raven circles, death walks there.

Looking further up, he saw two big birds in the air, fighting viciously with their talons and beaks tearing against each other's skin, feathers flying everywhere. Caden had never seen a bird this big. These birds can be used as mounts by humans but the terrifying glint in their eyes is that of a predator, there's no way they will allow any human to ride on their back. These are the real savage beasts he had never once seen even in the arena when he was fighting.

But I have to hope they will follow the plan and let everyone else out before making their escape. As the battles continue and the day wanes, the torches get lit. At one point, I see Zaiden is also able to shift a hand into a lion claw. I’ve watched her all day, but Tana hasn’t been able to shift. I’m worried about her going after the Commander if she’s unable to tap into her strength. When they call a kestrel and a hawk, I refocus my attention to the battle. While a kestrel is a bird of prey, they are the smallest of the falcon species. Hawks are actually one of their greatest predators.

I watched in awe as they leaped effortlessly across the meadows, their gentle leaps leaving no trace of disturbance. Further along, a group of pheasants took flight, their vibrant feathers painting the sky with streaks of crimson, gold, and emerald. Their wings beat in perfect harmony, creating a symphony of sound that echoed through the air. It was as if nature had orchestrated this spectacle solely for my enjoyment.

Her face was full of surprise as she didn't know where he was driving with that kind of question. “You know there is this saying birds of the same feather flock together but I am not sure it is in the same weather... but what they didn’t state there, is if they flock at the same time. They flock but not at the same time which means when a hunter gun down one of them, the rest run for their lives and live as though nothing ever happened. That is how they live, they live as though they didn’t lose anyone,” he paused and looked at Danah whose gaze was fixed on his face.
