"They cut the hardline." Kael sat beside me. He was vibrating with tension. He had ripped off his tie. His knuckles were white as he gripped the door handle. "How many men?" Kael asked. His voice was a low rumble that shook the seat. "Dorian has a team of four," I said. "But my father would not send thugs. He would send the Reapers." "Reapers?" "Private military contractors," I explained. "Genetically enhanced. Pain resistant. They are the ones who burned our house down five years ago."

Her eyes gleamed. “They’re Verek's direct lapdogs. Killers. They’ve slaughtered more people than most ordinary dare to count… Alphas included.” She leaned back slightly in her seat, completely at ease. “They’re rogues.” A sharp wave of gasps rippled through the crowd. Eyes darted toward George and the twins, disbelief written plainly across their faces. But Verya wasn’t done. “Not just rogues,” she added lightly. The air seemed to tighten. “They are the Four Reapers.”

They feed on human souls and flesh. Serra never saw one but they said the monster has scarlet glowing eyes, long and sharp razor-like talons, long black slithered body with black smoke coming out. The Reapers cannot be killed or even wounded by any weapons forged on earth. They are dimensional creatures and only those who draw power from other dimension can kill them, the Inkurs. The image of the monster gives shiver to her skins. She will never wish to meet one.

The bodies of the two attackers did not feel like ordinary flesh but more akin to puppets. "Who are you people?" Chase roared, his voice filled with fury. The black-clad man coughed blood, a grim smile on his lips. "Who are we? Haha... We're reapers. Everything on you... is ours now!" As he spoke, the man slammed a hand over the wound on his chest. A thumb-sized green talisman materialized, emitting a sharp, piercing hum.

And right in the middle of it all—he waited. Jax. They called him Reaper—because death followed him like a shadow, a silent, inevitable companion. The kind of man who could kill with a glance and leave no trace but silence and a cold void where a life once was. The instant his eyes, obsidian chips of ice, sliced through the noise and landed on me, the world shrank to that frozen moment. My breath caught, a jagged shard in my throat. I knew—without a doubt—that I was standing in the eye of a storm, and I was the fragile thing about to be torn apart.

The sound of his boots faded down the hall. I pressed my back against the wall and slid to the floor. My body was still shaking. Not from fear. Or not only from fear. Caspian shouted. Suddenly, the north wall disintegrated. Four men in matte-black tactical gear descended on fast-ropes. These weren't regular soldiers; they were the Reapers, the Old Guard’s personal cleanup crew. They didn't carry rifles; they carried high-output sonic cannons designed to disrupt neural tissue. Whump. The first sonic blast hit the room. The frequency was so high it turned Caspian’s vision into a blur of grey static. He collapsed to his knees, his ears bleeding.

Within warning he sent it in the way of the Sorcerer who was a total snob but he was smart and quick to move out of the way.
