Before I could respond, Rand appeared beside me, his arm sliding naturally around my waist. “Mother,” he said, a touch of surprise in his voice.
“Rand.” She smiled. “I was just telling your young lady how much I admire her work.”
“She’s remarkable,” Rand said. “In more ways than one.”
Mrs Calloway smiled knowingly. “Take care of her, son. The world already has enough lonely men with full bank accounts.”
