“First-year heirs.” Every head turns towards the balcony above. A woman stands there in black. The same one who did the welcome announcement. Now i clearly look at her. She looks about mid forties, hair in a severe bun. Composed and immaculate. “Welcome to Blackthorn Sovereign Academy.” The name settles over us like a verdict. “You are the next lifeline of this world. Gathered with purpose.” A pause. “This will not be an ordinary college experience. This is a battlefield. You will prove you are worthy to inherit what you were born into.”

Cold Seattle air brushed against my skin immediately. The second the car drove away, taking Mom, Jane, and Jessie with it, the nervousness hit me harder than before. I was alone now......Completely alone. I slowly turned toward the giant black gates standing proudly in front of me. BLACKWOOD ACADEMY.Even the name sounded intimidating.I inhaled deeply while staring at the massive campus behind the gates before forcing myself to move forward. Okay....I could do this.Students filled the courtyard, laughing loudly while walking toward different buildings dressed in the expensive-looking uniforms that somehow looked perfect on everyone.

With superhearings, everything seemed to be at your ear's disposal. "Welcome back, Vesper," Rosemary, one of the Restaurant's waiters, grinned. She moved in for a hug, which I accepted, and then her eyes flickered to Kelani. Rose was a werewolf as well. In fact, she was one of the alumni of the academy. Many of the students in the academy had nowhere else to go after finishing their studies. They were orphans or just abandoned kids by their parents after the latter realized they had special abilities. So, the Academy had made a special spot for those and anyone who intended to stay instead of going to the real world to explore other possibilities.

I haven't found mine yet but I'm not too worried because there is still time. I go to the werewolf academy for both boys and girls located on a small island in a secluded area and I'm in my last year. I and my twin chose to go to this academy rather than the other one just for Alphas, Betas and Gammas because we don't believe that just because we have a higher position that we should be superior, I mean we get the classes that we need at our academy and we befriend more people. The other academy is located a couple islands away but far enough that it would take a week to travel to each place by boat. Anyway, on with the story…

Stone walls covered in tapestries showing bloody battles and dark ceremonies. Rows of wooden desks faced a massive blackboard. About twenty students were already seated—mostly vampires, with a few humans scattered in the back. I took a seat in the last row, trying to make myself invisible.
