Some states were left their natural color, but others had a red border on them with highlights in crimson marking certain areas. A few states south were highlighted like that, and to the west at least half or more as well. If I had to take a wild guess, those were states where he had started to grow his influence. The one areas in deep crimson were under his control, and the ones left normal did not have anything to do with him as of yet.
