I carefully drop Blaze on the swing bench and she jolts reflexly when the swing moves. "Hey" I smile at her and she gives me a fake smile in return fiddling with her fingers. I have studied Blaze so well, that I can tell her real smile from a forced out one. "You don't have to talk if you don't want to" I find myself saying as I drop down on the space beside her. Bliss laughs dryly. "Your brain is probably cooking up the worst scene it can find from Raleigh's sob story and you are telling me not to talk if I don't wanna?"

The blaze flared into the sky. The night filled with smoke and sparks. The stars disappeared in the haze and glowing embers. The historical saloon hotel was shaded by the inferno roaring behind it. The life Lynexia had known and loved, devoured by coruscate. Lynexia stood at the edge of the woods and watched two figures being pushed through the ruins of the entrance to the saloon. They were covered in ash, and they were pale with fear from the building, disappearing inside again. A crack was heard through the screams and flames, and another window exploded. The roof began to buckle as more smoke and sparks sprayed the night sky.

“Why no tracks, no scent, no trace of—” “Because it doesn’t walk,” Blaze interrupted. “…What?” He turned slowly in place, scanning the sand like it might blink. “Not above ground.” Oh. Gods. “You’re saying we’re—” “Walking on its back,” he finished. My stomach twisted. I swore the sand beneath my boots tightened. Like muscle. “What do we do?” I whispered. Blaze didn’t answer right away. He lifted his hand between us and underneath the moonlight, his index finger changed. His finger lengthened with a wet, unnatural whisper of sound. Bone reshaped. Skin pulled tight. A claw curved outward where flesh had been.

I giggled. "No that's no- fuck it just do it after." She said and cut off the link. Damn, she must be really furious. "This is going to be fucking interesting." Noah said as he leaned on the wall behind us. "Yeah..." —————————————————— "And this how the system immune is created, any question?"
