If I threw the master capacitor switch, the sudden burst of ten thousand lumens of pure white light would instantly blind his optics. “Julian!” I yelled at the top of my lungs, giving him the only warning I could. “Close your eyes!” I didn't wait to see if he heard me. I grabbed the master capacitor handle with both hands and slammed it downward with everything I had. A loud, high-pitched electrical hum filled the room, followed by a sudden, blinding flash of brilliant white light. Long, industrial searchlights hidden in the high ceiling burst open at full power, turning the pitch-black room into a blazing white furnace.

I bent the light, ignoring refraction, ignoring scattering. I pulled the sun underwater. The beam of concentrated solar energy hit me. It hit the kelp wrapped around me.
